Artist Bios
Mariachi Las Alteñas is a trailblazing ensemble founded in 2002 in San Antonio and led by Valerie Vargas. With ten female musicians, they blend vocal and instrumental prowess to elevate mariachi performance standards and honor Mexican heritage with passion and polish. Their repertoire spans classic rancheras, boleros, sones, and choreographed sets full of rich vocal harmonies and musical diversity, leaving audiences of all generations enthralled.
Over more than two decades, Las Alteñas have performed across the U.S. from major festivals like Mariachi USA at the Hollywood Bowl to returning as featured artists on national platforms like Good Morning America. With authenticity, elegance, and fierce artistry, they continue to redefine what mariachi music can be.
They appeared at Blanco Performing Arts on June 22, 2024, in a vibrant free community concert, showcasing their artistry to Hill Country crowds and affirming BPA’s commitment to cultural inclusivity and community engagement
